Seed Cathedral

The brilliant bristling structure you see above is not the world’s largest pincushion – it’s Thomas Heatherwick‘s recently completed UK Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai Expo. Dubbed the “Seed Cathedral”, the six-story high structure is studded with 60,000 translucent rods that act as fiber-optic filaments that channel sunlight into the pavilion’s interior. The densely-packed forest of filaments also contains the impetus to create living forests in the future — each 7.5 meter long “branch” contains seeds from the Millenium Seed Bank that will be given to China one the expo has run its course.

I watched the presentation of Thomas Heatherwick in TED Talk. This artist creates a lot of interesting architecture which was the Seed Cathedral in 2010. The concept of this monument is biodiversity. He always thinks the combination of nature and architecture. He designed different things in his work, such as temple, cafe, bridge, and so on.Architecture is fundamental instrument in our life. Therefore, designing architects mean design human lifestyle. In my opinion, I think eco-friendly can lead the way to create and design that make not only product but also architecture more unique. Furthermore, the building that combine between eco and aesthetic can make people realize to the important of nature.

project 4 London trip

This project is my last project for pre-sessional English course. We went to different city and museum for each project. At this time, we went to London, and the museum is near to London tower which is brilliant. I was very excited although it's not my first time to London tower.

                                                   Fausto Puglisi AW14/15 collection
                                                   Designed by Fausto Puglisi, Italy
The autumn/winer ready-to-wear collection from Fausto Puglisi combines irregular blocks and triangular shards of strong contrasting colors. The harlequin effect comes from mixed fabrics in silk, crepe wool and soft leather. These garments -short and pleated skirts, loosely fitting knitwear, bejeweled and embroidered dresses, and structured jackets and tourers- were inspired by the movement, speed, color and strength found in the fragmented forms of early 20-th century abstract art movements, such as Supermatism, the Cubist art of Sonia Delaunay and the dynamism of Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes.

The work ‘On Reflections and Revelations’ is an attempt to challenge our rational minds. This art work is made by glass, copper wire, plaster, fabric, glass wax, organic materials. This project is inspire by designer's reception of other people's emotions but only when she is a subjective, emotional and responsive friend, designer sowing the seeds for intimate moments and discussions. However, she hope present his work in the near future to an audience.

IFAD exhibitions review

Today I went to the IFAD show which was the students who studied international foundation Art & Design in UCA.

Because my major is fashion design, so I saw fashion work first. This one is created by a pretty Chinese girl- Coco whose study fashion textile. When the first time I saw her work, I felt it is quite simple, but when I have a look for her sketchbook I was change my mind.

She used different ways and materials to creative her conception and extend idea. Coco’s final piece as three garments want to be a tough and strong woman, but her also loves dramatic costumes. Therefore her final outcome is demonstrating about power and structure, which was two crucial elements she most admire and desire, thus she decided to include them in her final garment. In being a woman. Eugene Delacroix painting ‘Liberty Leading the People’ which was about the July Revolution 1830 in France inspired Coco’s collection. And also connect with the historical painting in Romanticism.
“I want to create my own style, dramatic but yet powerful.” Coco said.

art review(bibligraphy)

Roberta Breitmore(Lynn Hershman Leeson 1970-1979)
In the 1970s, specifically from 1973 to 1978, Roberta Breitmore was her major creation. Roberta Breitmore is a persona Hershman adopted over several years, enacting the transformation with wigs, make-up and clothing. With the addition of a little bureaucratic validation (driver's licence, credit cards, address and bank account, psychological profile, etc.), the fictional character became practically real, spilling over from fiction into reality. Today nothing remains to indicate her existence apart from a few artifacts: diary, letters, photographs and diverse documents. “The work itself consisted essentially of Roberta's experiences. Roberta Breitmore let Hershman highlight several feminist problematics, such as the way the social and cultural environment constructs women's identities, and how women are victims of the structures and conditioning imposed on them.” According to San Francisco(2006).  In 1978, rather than committing suicide (as the artist had planned), Roberta ended her days during an exorcism at the grave of Lucrezia Borgia in Ferrara, Italy. On the other hand, It also signifies the transformation of Roberta from passive to active, and as Hershman’s hoped, Roberta from victim to victor.
